Building Skills, Getting Ready for Summer

Throughout the month of June, our youth programming staff and five alumni youth leaders got everything ready for the Freedom Fellowship. They worked HARD all month--selecting the Freedom Fellows, finishing up the curriculum design and making sure all of the operations details were figured out.

Staff and youth leaders did a deep dive into communications strategy and planning with jewel marie & associates in early June. Later in the month, we were trained in Urban Emergency First Response by our comrades at Ujimaa Medics as well as in CPR and First Aid. Finally, Bonsai Bermúdez led a 3-hour training on de-escalation techniques.

The Queer Radical Fair and summer concert on June 18th was so joyous and beautiful. We were grateful to be in partnership with the Chicago Park District, Chicago Public Library, YOUMedia, Rebirth Garments, Chef Fresh and more. Special performances included Ric WilsonDemetruestTWEAK'G and DJ Mo Mami. It was a gorgeous summer day to be out with community! Thank you to everyone who came out!
