REPORTS TO: Director of Wellness, Culture & Action

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, Exempt [30 hours a week]

PAY RATE: Salary Range $28,000-$30,000, Full benefits and PTO

Purpose of the Role:

 

As Freedom Fellowship Coordinator you will be responsible for the successful implementation of Chicago Freedom School’s (CFS) flagship program. Your primary responsibility will be outreach, selection and program development for youth in the Freedom Fellowship program, coordinating and facilitating trainings to increase youth voice and leadership, and serving as an adult accomplice to youth as they create action plans to achieve social change. You will also work with the Director of Wellness, Culture & Action to develop program outcomes that further the mission of CFS and promote positive youth development principles.

 

This position will require a well-rounded, highly motivated individual who can manage an ambitious youth program. The position entails developing and sustaining excellent relationships with youth, staff, and community leaders.  The position requires an individual who is innovative, flexible, and dedicated to social justice.

 

Core Responsibilities:

Lead all aspects of the Freedom Fellowship program, including designing and staffing the Summer Leadership Institute with input and support from the Youth Leadership Board
Serve as a mentor to Freedom Fellows as they develop their analysis of community issues and develop community organizing action plans during the fall/winter
Provide on-going resource advocacy to holistically support youth
Create and revise program objectives and program goals
As a part of the organization’s capacity-building work, facilitate adultism trainings in partnership with youth for community organizations, interested individuals, and in-house professional development
Serve as the adult accomplice for the Youth Leadership Board, a 6-8 member youth-led decision-making body at CFS
Work with the CFS team to create affirming and accountable youth-led space and strengthen the voice of youth throughout all of CFS’s organizational structure
Develop relationships and maintain open lines of communication with other youth-led initiatives across the city, network with other youth organizers in the field of social justice, cultivate relationships with schools and partner organizations, and collaborate on projects within capacity
Attend professional development trainings that increase knowledge in youth leadership development and organizing
Assist in CFS fundraising efforts, including participation in site visits and contribution to grant proposals
Represent CFS at programs and events related to the organization’s mission and vision
Collaborate and strategize with CFS staff on issues pertaining to overall organizational growth and development
Required Qualifications:

Well-rounded, highly motivated individual who can manage an ambitious youth program
Commitment to social justice and progressive movement-building
Must genuinely like and respect young people at all stages of development
Flexible schedule including ability to work 2-3 evenings/week and some Saturdays
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience working with youth of color from urban communities
Experience facilitating small and large groups
Commitment to foster a supportive, physically and emotionally brave environment
Willingness to work collaboratively and respectfully with a diverse staff, as well as developing and sustaining excellent relationships with youth and community leaders
Able to handle crisis in a calm and effective manner
Good written and oral communication skills; detailed-oriented
Strong computer skills and a solid understanding of basic database management
A willingness to provide support to other CFS projects as needed
Experience doing community organizing; including working knowledge of the city and issues impacting Chicago youth of color

This will be a hybrid position both onsite at Chicago Freedom School, with the opportunity to work from home virtually. (Subject to change in FY22.) Must be comfortable working in partnership with youth and in a youth-centered office space.

Training Coordinator

POSITION: Training Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt

PAY RATE: Salary Range $42,000-$45,000, Full benefits and PTO

Purpose of the Role:

As Training Coordinator you will manage the organization’s “fee-for-service” training department, including Northstar, Chicago Freedom School’s Liberation Education Collective. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a “fee-for-service” (FFS) training strategy with the support of the Executive Director that seeks new training clients while maintaining and supporting current clients and partners. This is an opportunity to develop and maintain training curricula rooted in radical pedagogy, own training/program facilitation, training outreach, implement evaluation tools, and manage contracted training consultants.

This position will be supervised by the Executive Director for seventy-five percent of the FFS work and supervised by the Director of Wellness, Culture & Action for twenty-five percent of work pertaining to Northstar.

Core Responsibilities:

Develop a business strategy to increase revenue from trainings
Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day management of outreach, contracts, consultants, and training requests
Ensure adequate pre and post consulting and follow-up with clients
Supervise two Northstar program associates
Create and maintain organizational systems for efficient information management, including client filing and invoicing
Facilitate training when a consultant is unavailable
Work closely with Executive Director and Director of Wellness, Culture and Action in creating and implementing development operation procedures, policies, and strategies that reflect organizational frameworks
Prepare internal financial reports; participate in budget planning and management, as necessary
Support and represent CFS at programs and events related to the organization’s mission and vision
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. (i.e. fully participate in vision and planning and staff meetings.)
Required Qualifications:

Experience in social justice organizing, movement building, and working with youth
The position requires a highly motivated individual who is an expert at facilitating training for a diverse audience, including youth and adults
Understanding an anti-oppression praxis, a healing justice framework, and youth development
Ability to develop creative, thoughtful, and engaging training using popular education pedagogy rooted in Black liberation
Exceptional customer service skills
Highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented
Ability to manage several projects at once
Willingness to self-direct and rapidly adjust to changing project priorities
Demonstrated management skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite Applications (Gmail, Hangouts, Drive, Calendar) and online training tools

Director of Development and Communications

 

POSITION: Director of Development and Communications

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Exempt

PAY RATE: Salary Range $50,000-$60,000, Full benefits and PTO

Purpose of the Role:

As Director of Development and Communications, you will play a critical role at Chicago Freedom School (CFS) by overseeing the development processes to increase funding revenue. This includes owning the creation, implementation, evaluation, and successful ongoing management of CFS’s fundraising and communication strategies. You’ll work closely with the Executive Director (ED), senior management team, and the Board Fundraising Committee to develop and manage strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of existing as well as prospective individual, foundation, and corporate donors. You will manage grant deliverables including; grant calendar and grant writing, and also support communications including quarterly newsletters, year-in-review, and outward-facing communications on social media platforms amplifying our trainings and programs.

Core Responsibilities:

Monitor and coordinate accounting activities as appropriate, including gathering, entering and updating data to maintain departmental records and databases (i.e. tracking individual donations and organizational grants)
Create and maintain organizational systems for efficient information management, including updating CFS’s financial files
Support the annual appeal process and manages donor acknowledgment program in which thank you letters are appropriately tracked, personalized, and mailed in a timely manner
Prepare internal development and fundraising reports; participate in budget planning and management, as required
Manage coordinated efforts with team members to send out a monthly newsletter, social media posts, and other communication efforts as see fit.
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned (i.e. preparing materials for board/staff meetings, fully participate in vision and planning meetings)

 

Required Qualifications:

Exceptional writing and communication skills
Highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented
Ability to manage several projects at once
Willingness to self-direct and rapidly adjust to changing project priorities
Experience with web-based databases and financial management systems desirable
Demonstrated management skills
Demonstrated budgeting and finance skills
Knowledge of current and emerging trends in fundraising
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite Applications (Gmail, Hangouts, Drive, Calendar)
Previous experience with a customer relationship management database (CRM)
Knowledge of and familiarity with payment systems (Paypal, Square, Simplify Commerce) preferred
