Job Opportunities

CFS is hiring campaign coaches and a wellness advisor to be seasonal staff for the 2012 Freedom Fellowship Summer Leadership Institute.

Campaign Coaches will meet with youth one full day a week for four weeks to prepare them to take action on issues related to access to healthy and affordable food and criminalization of youth in schools.  Download Campaign Coach Job Description.

Volunteer Opportunities

We welcome and appreciate any interest in volunteering with the Chicago Freedom School. We are excited to work with a growing constituency concerned about the activism of youth in Chicago community.  We can always use help to move forward, and we especially need the support of people who are willing to take up the behind-the-scenes work.   Please let us know if you can do:

RESEARCH and EVALUATION to help us evaluate our work and learn more about the impact of youth-led social change around the world;

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY support for the computers and software used in our office;

LIBRARY MAINTENANCE to help us maintain, update and build our library;

We ask that volunteers make a commitment of at least six months to work at CFS and attend a 2.5-hour volunteer orientation.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please complete a Volunteer Application:

Student Interview Policy

The Chicago Freedom School receives many student requests for interviews and information about our work. While we are honored to be contacted and excited about the support for youth activism, we are unfortunately unable to answer every request.

To remain true to our mission of supporting youth-led social change and intergenerational community organizing, we ask for an exchange of volunteer time for staff time. This policy ensures that our time spent working with interested parties our primary constituency will still help us advance our mission.  We generally ask for an equal exchange of volunteer hours for staff time, with a minimum of two hours for each request. Depending on the nature and scope of your request, more volunteer hours may be required.

Volunteers, including student researchers, who plan to commit eight or more hours must complete a volunteer application and attend an orientation session.  As it may take some time to schedule volunteer work, please contact us as much in advance of your deadline as possible, with at least two weeks notice.  We will do our best to accommodate requests, but cannot guarantee we will be available for every request.
